Man arrested for stealing cash, lottery tickets

COLUMBUS, INDIANA – Police have arrested a man on suspicion of multiple commercial thefts.

The Columbus Police Department is investigating multiple cases of people throwing rocks into buildings through windows or glass doors. The person then stole cash and lottery tickets.

On a January morning. Columbus police officers responded to a business theft in the 1700 block of State Street on the 26th. They discovered that a rock had been used to break the glass door. The thief then left with the cash register.

Surveillance cameras showed a man – later identified as 27-year-old Jeron McDonald – in the area before the reported burglary. A police dog begins to track the suspect; the track ends at an apartment building on South Cherry Street. Police found the cash register in a nearby alley.

Officials established the border and detained McDonald. Investigators found a large amount of cash in his apartment along with a reportedly stolen lottery ticket. Police provided a photo of the stolen money.

McDonald was arrested on preliminary charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and criminal mischief. Police suspect McDonald’s is responsible for multiple thefts and say additional charges may be filed.
