The City Council used videoconferencing technology for the first time during Monday night’s voting session under the city’s new videoconferencing law.
Councilman Jeff Russell, R-At Large, was unable to attend the voting meeting in person; however, City Council President Anthony Dolce (R-Ward II) said he was determined not to miss the meeting, especially considering it was the Council’s monthly voting meeting importance.
Russell was able to participate in Monday’s voting session via Zoom video conferencing technology. A large screen of the councilor is displayed in front of his permanent seat in the city council chamber.
“He was able to do it because the country has now allowed it, and we passed that resolution a month ago, which gives us the opportunity to be able to do that so that people can still be involved and be there,” Dolce said.
While videoconferencing technology gave Russell the opportunity to vote on each resolution, the technology encountered major difficulties with delays and feedback.At the end of the voting session, Dolce described Inauguration or video conferencing as “interesting” to experience “Some issues need to be addressed” Technically.
“We had a few hiccups,” Dolce said. “I know Senator Russell has been delayed a few times. It’s been a bit tough. He’s been delayed a little bit, so we’ve had to listen and wait. Someone who couldn’t be here for some reason but still wanted to participate.”
Despite technical difficulties during the meeting, Dolce remains confident the city will fix the technology “Fault” You will soon get used to using video conferencing software to convene parliamentarians who cannot often attend important meetings in person due to various circumstances.
